A message from our Chair
Welcome to our humble home online! Since 1966, The Mathematical Association of Tanzania has been championing mathematical education and activities across the country. We are a group of educators, mathematicians, engineers, and lovers of the subject dedicated to creating awareness and support for mathematical endeavours across Tanzania.
What we do
Research competitions
The competitions are for both students and teachers. They include writing of mathematics books and manuals for primary and secondary schools. The current written manual script book is Foundation of Mathematics book for algebraic topics of Form I and II.
MAT Bulletin
MAT Bulletin is a journal that documents mathematical activities. We distribute the journal across Tanzania. The bulletin is regularly published and posted on this platform available here.
Celebrating International Day of Mathematics
IDM is celebrated nationwide on 14th March annually and in the specific MAT zones and schools. It involves procession of students and teachers, exhibitions of teaching aids and new research on the subject.
Mathematics contests
MAT organizes two types of contests each year: Junior Contest for Form 3 and 4, and Senior Contest for Form 5 and 6. The association also encourages schools to participate in international competitions, and supports the contestants by financial aid or searching for sponsors for the competition costs.
Seminars
The association stipulates that there should be at least two zonal mathematics seminars per year. These seminars culminate in a one-week Annual National Mathematics Seminar, typically done in September. The week involves teachers’ learning sessions for at least 6 topics respective of their teaching level (primary, ordinary level and advanced level) as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) application in their day-to-day teaching.
